THE NEW STANDARD OF LUXURY: HOW THE COSTA DEL SOL IS EMERGING AS EUROPE’S ULTIMATE DESTINATION FOR WELLNESS AND EXCLUSIVITY

The New Dimension of Luxury at the Costa del Sol

The Costa del Sol is on the verge of an impressive transformation. While the region has been known for decades for its pleasant climate, golf courses, and Mediterranean lifestyle, the focus at the high end is shifting to a new level. Between now and 2029, a series of prestigious projects will rise, permanently establishing the coastline as one of Europe’s most exclusive destinations for luxury living, five-star hospitality, and preventive healthcare.

Notably, luxury today extends far beyond refined design and Michelin-starred gastronomy. Modern epicureans seek health, well-being, relaxation, and longevity (a long and vital life). The latest generation of ultra-luxury resorts caters seamlessly to this demand.

We guide you through the most defining new-build and redevelopment projects that will shape the Costa del Sol over the coming years.

1. Casares: Pioneer in Medical Wellness & Elite Living

Lanserhof at Finca Cortesín

Within the prestigious Finca Cortesín, Lanserhof—the world leader in medical wellness and preventive medicine—will open its very first Spanish location by late 2026. Representing an investment of around €93 million, an ultra-modern resort featuring 71 luxury suites, an advanced medical diagnostic center, and extensive wellness facilities will take shape here.

St. Regis Residences

Also in Casares, one of Marriott’s most iconic brands makes its debut: St. Regis Residences. This project combines the privacy and comfort of an exclusive private residence with the renowned service and amenities of an international five-star hotel.

2. Benahavís & Estepona: Quality Boosts along the Coast

Angsana Real de La Quinta Resort (Marbella / Benahavís)

On the border of Marbella and Benahavís, Banyan Tree Group is developing the Angsana Real de La Quinta Resort. This will be the first Angsana resort in Spain, featuring a luxury hotel, exclusive residences, a signature spa, and comprehensive wellness amenities immersed in nature.

JW Marriott Beach Resort (Estepona)

In Estepona, the former Estepona Hotel & Spa is undergoing a complete transformation into a JW Marriott Beach Resort. This large-scale renovation will turn the property into a five-star Gran Lujo resort with spacious suites, high-end gastronomy, and an impressive spa and wellness center.

3. Mijas: Modernization & Sports Medicine

In Mijas, the focus is less on mega-projects and more on elevating existing infrastructure. Both private and public investments are directed toward modernizing renowned golf and wellness resorts, with a strong emphasis on sports medicine, sustainability, and high-end residential developments.

4. Marbella: Icons of the Future

Waldorf Astoria Marbella

Hilton brings its very first Waldorf Astoria in Spain to the Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort. With an investment of approximately €220 million, this flagship development will feature 120 luxurious hotel rooms, 120 branded residences, an exclusive wellness complex, and a fully renovated golf course.

Las Dunas Club (Marbella East)

In East Marbella, a major redevelopment worth €350 million is underway: Las Dunas Club. Expected around 2028, it will feature a luxury hotel with 186 rooms, over 170 branded residences, a stylish beach club, extensive sports facilities, and spacious wellness areas.

The Crown Jewel: Four Seasons Resort & Residences Marbella

The ultimate highlight of the region is undoubtedly the Four Seasons Resort & Residences. With an estimated investment of €700 million, this will be one of Spain’s most prestigious resort developments. The project combines a Gran Lujo hotel with exclusive Four Seasons–managed residences, fine dining, extensive spa facilities, and over 100,000 square meters of protected green space. Initial handovers are anticipated from 2029.

A Future Full of Opportunities for Buyers and Investors

Adding up the figures, the officially announced projects alone account for over €1.36 billion. When including developments whose budgets remain confidential, the total investment wave will comfortably surpass €1.5 billion.

The Costa del Sol is definitively evolving into a top international destination where high-end residential living, medical innovation, and unparalleled hospitality meet. For investors and buyers seeking a world-class second home, this transformation offers a unique opportunity to enter a region that is redefining the future of luxury.
