From bidet to shower toilet: hygiene in the bathroom

In Spain, the traditional bidet is still a familiar sight in bathrooms, although by no means all people still actively use it. In Belgium and the Netherlands, bidets have almost disappeared, but the modern shower-toilet is gaining ground there. This toilet with built-in water jet cleans with hot water and sometimes even air after use.

Shower toilets are more hygienic, gentler on the skin and environmentally friendly as they use much less toilet paper. You set the temperature, jet strength and direction yourself, usually via a button or remote control. There are complete models or separate attachments for use on an existing toilet.

Once you get used to them, you usually won't want to go back to regular toilet paper.
