SPANISH FARMERS RAISE THE ALARM
Spanish farmers have once again taken to the streets in large numbers. Protests were held in more than thirty provinces against EU agricultural policy and cheap imports that, according to farmers, do not meet the same standards as Spanish products. With tractors and vehicles, they made clear that patience has run out. They demand better quality control in supermarkets, warn of risks to food safety and fear further cuts to the EU agricultural budget. Rising costs, water shortages and an ageing farming population are also putting the future of Spanish agriculture at risk.
