Description
Ojén is a beautiful white village on the Costa del Sol, spectacularly situated on the slopes of the Sierra Blanca just a few kilometers from the coast.
The history of the village dates back to Moorish times, with the name derived from the Arabic word "Hoxen" meaning "place of wealth" or "bitter". The climate is Mediterranean and refreshing, with the elevated position providing slightly cooler summers and very pure air that forms a welcome contrast to the heat of the nearby beaches.
The main attractions are the famous caves of Ojén and the atmospheric village square where the church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación from the sixteenth century stands. The local gastronomy is authentic and famous for the "Aguardiente de Ojén", a strong anise drink that became world-famous and was even praised by famous writers in their literature. For golfers, the village is an excellent base, as the prestigious courses of Marbella and the exclusive club of El Soto Golf are located a very short drive away.
The residents form a close-knit and welcoming community of local families and international residents who consciously choose the peace and tradition of village life. The surroundings are characterized by the rugged mountains of the Sierra de las Nieves natural park, where one can enjoy spectacular hiking trails and a panoramic view over the Mediterranean Sea. Living in Ojén offers unique advantages, such as an authentic Spanish ambiance, a lower cost of living compared to the coast, and the luxury of having both the mountains and the sea within reach.
